1. A Hearty Breakfast Thank You
 Thanks to everyone who joined us for breakfast on Nov. 19. Double thanks to those who hosted a table or made a donation to support the great work our non-profit does linking people of all ages — especially children –  to nature through education.

If you aren’t a donor, please consider making a year end gift. Help us reach our goal of raising $50,000 so that we can receive $50,000 in matching money from Winnebago County.

2. Environmental Philosophy and the Night Sky

Save Sunday, Feb. 15.

Kathleen Dean Moore (Website) and Paul Bogard appear at 6:30 p.m. at the nature Center.

Moore is an environmental philosopher and teacher. She explores cultural and spiritual connections to nature. She is hard at work compiling a new book, For All Time, wide-ranging essays about our responsibility to the future to leave a world as full of life and possibility as our own.

Bogard teaches English at Northland College, Ashland, Wis. He edited the book Let There Be Night:  Testimony on Behalf of the Dark. It’s a collection of essays on light pollution and protecting the night skies. Click here for a recent commentary on street lights.


3. Concerto For the Birds

Finland’s Einojuhani Rautavarra’s Cantus Articus (Concerto For Birds) is an ethereal and captivating tribute to the perennial migration of arctic birds.
 
The Rockford Symphony Orchestra will perform the piece Jan. 10. Mention Severson Dells when you order, and you’ll get a 25% discount. 4. Our House is Open
 
 
Our House is Your House todaty, Dec. 29 & tomorrow, Dec. 30. 
 
Come take a hike, off trail if you like. Build a snow cave. Watch birds. Ski. Read a book. Sit by the Fire. Drink cocoa. Or just hang out.

Open House hors are  9 a.m. to 3 p.m. We invite you (people of all ages) to come out to Severson Dells and just hang out!
 
There is no fee, only lots of unstructured fun.
