A story was written in the early 1970s, back when plaid bell bottoms were “in.” (Were they really ever “in”?) The story was titled “hope for the flowers,” and was written by trina paulus. (I guess it was “in” not to capitalize properly as well.) The story is about two caterpillars, one striped and the other yellow.

The caterpillars met as they both were struggling to squirm and push their way to the top of the “caterpillar pillar.” Many occurrences happened during the climb to the top, involving more caterpillars trying to get to the top, as well as trying to stay on the top of the pillar. The caterpillars’ lives go through a metamorphosis, both figuratively and literally. In the end, they find life is much more enjoyable outside of the caterpillar race.
