A few weeks ago, I happened to hear a brief report on one of our local TV stations about bats. I heard words like “annoying,” “pests” and “disease” used to refer to these fascinating animals. I cringed. I don’t consider myself an expert, but for the last 10 years, I have been educating children, and anyone else who would listen, about the wonder of bats.

The truth is that bats are among the most shy and gentle creatures on earth. They make good neighbors, and are an important part of our ecosystem.
