Local Photographer Shares Bird Image Library
Posted by Brian Leaf under Info, Observing Nature
So you ask yourself, “What was that bird?”
Well if it is a bird you saw in the Midwest, Rockford’s Mary Kay Rubey has probably photographed it. And there’s a good chance if you saw it in Montana, Florida or Arizona, that she’s got a picture of it, too.

Mary Kay is passionate about photographing nature. She’s a frequent visitor to Severson Dells Nature Center and spends hours watching birds and waiting for just for the right shot. We have used her photos on our Website and she is widely published in bird-related magazine.
One of her current projects is building a database of images taken at Severson Dells. Mary Kay has broken the database down into birds, reptiles and amphibians, butterflies and other insects, and mammals. It is a work in progress and some of creatures haven’t yet been identified.
Mary Kay says: “If you or anyone else would like to identify the photos that I have not yet identified, please feel free to email me the ID information. I have some photos that just say dragonfly, insect, moth, butterfly, etc., without listing the specific species.”
Send an email to brian@seversondells.org if you can identify any of the generically-named animals and I’ll pass it on to Mary Kay.
