Rockford native Anders Carlson will present “Global Warming and the Fate of the Greenland Ice Sheet: Lessons from the Past,” 7 p.m. Thursday at the Burpee Museum of Natural History.
Carlson, who holds a PhD in geology from Oregon State University-Corvallis, is studying the Greenland ice sheet as a post doctoral fellow at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute, Mass.
Here’s information from a Burpee press release:
Recent glaciological observations of the Greenland Ice Sheet suggest that ice sheets may be much more sensitive to climate warming than previously thought. Anders will discuss the geologic record of ice sheet fluctuations and their relationship to climate change, and how we can use their past variability to better constrain the future of the remaining ice sheets and the grim implications.
Time: Museum is open from 5-7:00 pm for lecture guests,
Wine reception to follow, sponsored by
The Oak Barrel and Table 13
Place: Burpee Museum 737 North Main Street, Rockford, IL
